Blonde is a specialty, not a box
Great blonde is the hardest color to do well. Lifting hair light without frying it, placing the brightness where it flatters your face, and toning out every trace of brass — that's the difference between salon blonde and a box on the bathroom shelf.
Our Goldwell-trained color specialists have blonded Gainesville for over twenty years: foil highlights for crisp, uniform brightness, hand-painted balayage for a soft lived-in blonde, delicate babylights, and full platinum double-process. Every service includes toning and a gloss, so you leave with dimensional, finished blonde — not raw lightener.
Because we place light by hand and tone to your shade, your color grows out softly. Most guests stretch to eight to twelve weeks between visits instead of chasing roots.
Find your blonde
Full & partial highlights
Foil highlights for bright, uniform blonde. A partial lightens the face-framing pieces and crown; a full works the whole head for all-over brightness. Both are toned to your shade.
Face-framing & babylights
A hand-painted money piece to brighten around the face, or fine babylights woven close for a soft, sun-kissed blonde that grows out seamlessly — no bold streaks, no hard line.
Balayage & lived-in blonde
Hand-painted, low-maintenance blonde with no regrowth line, sun-grown and soft. It stretches furthest between visits. See the balayage page for the technique in full.
Platinum & cool blonde
A double-process lift and tone to a bright, icy, or platinum all-over blonde. Depending on where you're starting, we may stage it across sessions to keep your hair healthy.
Going blonde from brown or dark hair
Brown, dark brown, and black hair can all go blonde — it just takes a plan, not a single reckless bleach. We lift gradually, often starting with balayage or foilyage to build brightness across more than one session, so the color stays clean and the hair stays strong.
If your dark color came from a box, that's a color correction before we brighten. Bring photos and your honest hair history to your consultation and we'll map a realistic timeline, session count, and cost before anything begins.
What happens at your appointment?
Consultation
We look at your hair's history, the brightness and tone you want, and the photos you bring, then agree on a plan and a price — including how many sessions a big change will take — before any color begins.
Lift & place
Foils, hand-painting, or both, using Goldwell lightener with bond protection. We lift only as far as your hair can safely go and place the light where it flatters you. Longer or darker hair takes more time; plan on 2 to 4 hours.
Tone, gloss & home care
Toning and a gloss are always included, so you leave with finished, brass-free blonde. We send you home with the right products and a simple plan to keep it bright between visits.

Blonde questions, answered
How much do highlights cost in Gainesville?
At Ciao Bella, a mini highlight and toning starts at $140, a partial highlight and toning at $180, and a full highlight and toning at $225. A full balayage and toning starts at $295. Toning is always included, and your stylist confirms your exact quote at your complimentary consultation before any color begins. Book an appointment.
What's the difference between partial and full highlights?
A partial highlight lightens the top and sides — the pieces that frame your face and show most — and is the right choice for adding brightness or maintaining blonde. A full highlight works the entire head, crown to nape, for an all-over brighter, more uniform blonde. In your consultation we look at how bright you want to be and how the color grows out, then recommend one over the other.
Can I go blonde if my hair is dark brown or black?
Yes — dark hair can absolutely go blonde, it just takes a plan. Lifting brown or black hair to a clean blonde safely is usually done across more than one session so the hair stays healthy, often starting with balayage or foilyage to build brightness gradually. If your dark color is box dye, that's a color correction first — tell us your history and we'll map out a realistic timeline and cost.
Balayage or highlights — which should I get?
Foil highlights give brighter, more uniform lift from the root and are ideal for classic all-over blonde and for covering regrowth. Balayage is hand-painted for a softer, sun-grown, lived-in blonde with no hard regrowth line, so it stretches further between visits. Many guests do a mix. Our balayage page covers the hand-painting technique in detail.
What are babylights?
Babylights are very fine, delicate highlights woven close together to mimic the natural, sun-kissed blonde children have. They create soft dimension and a seamless grow-out rather than bold streaks, and they pair beautifully with a face-framing money piece.
How do I keep my blonde from going brassy?
Two things: toning and upkeep. Every color service here includes toning to neutralize warmth the day you leave, and a toning and blowout or gloss between highlight appointments (from $85) refreshes it. At home, a purple shampoo used once or twice a week and washing in cooler water keeps brass away longer. Our retail shelf carries violet-toned shampoo — including Goldwell's Blondes & Highlights anti-yellow line — so you can walk in and restock any time, no appointment needed.
Will blonding damage my hair?
Lightening is the most demanding thing you can do to hair, so how it's done matters. We use Goldwell lightener with bond-protecting additives, lift only as far as your hair can safely go in one visit, and space bigger transformations across sessions. Healthy blonde is the goal — a brittle, over-processed blonde helps no one.
What is a double process or going platinum?
A double process lightens the whole head and then tones it to your target shade — the route to a bright, cool, or platinum all-over blonde. It starts at $190 and, depending on your starting color, may be staged over more than one appointment to protect the hair. We'll tell you honestly at consultation whether platinum is achievable in one visit.
How often do I need highlights?
A partial highlight typically holds for eight to twelve weeks; a full highlight or balayage stretches longer because there's no hard regrowth line. A root shadow and glossing ($115) can blur the grow-out and buy you extra time between full appointments. We'll build a maintenance rhythm around your hair and your budget.
